3D Printing - Custom Buttstock

3D Printing - Custom Buttstock
1 / 7

As part of a collaboration with a sport shooting club, we had the opportunity to develop and 3D-print a buttstock intended for regular use.

Before arriving at the final version, we conducted several tests using different materials to find the best balance between rigidity, stability, durability, and finish quality.

We ultimately chose PPS-CF10, a technical material made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide. This composite is notable for its high rigidity, excellent dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, and high resistance to heat and many chemicals. According to the Fiberon PPS-CF10 technical data sheet, the material also has a heat deflection temperature of up to 252.5 °C under certain test conditions.

The part was printed with a “rugged” finish, which gives it a more raw and technical appearance while providing a visual look particularly suited to its intended use.

This project also provided an opportunity to further explore the possibilities offered by 3D printing of engineering materials and to develop a new aspect of our business focused on the production of functional and customized parts.
